Knife Safety & Fire Lighting

This evening the Scouts learnt how to be safe with a knife & look after it, Jason showed them how to sharpen it on a leather belt & an oil stone so to keep it in tip top condition, they were taught when it was ok to carry a knife, and how to carry it safely. They did a short quiz and identified the different functions on a swiss army penknife and were asked questions about what they knew about keeping knives. With that information in hand the leaders took the scouts outside and taught them how to build a fire from scratch, how to get kindling, we used the flint strikers that they had made in the last few weeks to start the fire, no matches or lighters were used. Then once we had the fire going they had smores.....everyone loves smores a melted marshmallow between 2 chocolate digestives....yummy yummy .
