This evening as part of our Fire Safety badge preparation we visited Luton Fire Station where we met up with Jordanna and Blue watch to learn all about fire safety in their specially designed home safety centre. This is a house containing loads of potential risks and we were taught how to prevent them, we also discussed how to call the emergency services and plan your escape route should you have a fire at home.
We found out what equipment the fire fighters carry and had a look at the appliances, we saw the platform engine this reaches up to an astonishing 14 storeys in height (not that I would have the stomach to climb that ladder. we found that the engines weigh a massive 15 tonnes and hold 1800 litres of water that they can use in about 8 minutes. then just as we were leaving they got a "shout" so we saw the firefighters in action leaving the station.
What a truly awesome night, loads learnt and very interesting to see behind the scenes too.
Thank you Jordanna & the guys from Blue Watch :)
