Summer Camp 2018

Wow what a camp, we arrived at camp with two mini buses as we had filled one and needed a 2nd, 29 of us summer camp! Well we all met at the scout hq nice an early and once all the trailers & minibuses were loaded off we went for our adventure.

For a few of our scouts this was the first time away from home or without either Mum or Dad. We arrived at the campsite at in good time and started to unload the trailer, we set up a human chain to get the trailers unloaded as it was extremely hot but we needed to get the 12 tents that we had up. The patrol leaders Josiah, Harvey, Ben & Noah set to work getting their tents up, in each of their teams they had younger scouts who had never pitched a patrol tent, whilst the patrol leaders got started the leaders got up the mess & cook tent. By now it was 33 degrees and everyone was sweating but we cracked on. We stopped for lunch at about 2pm we all had to sit in the shade as it was so hot. Once all the tents had been pitched the scouts went off and did some exploring whilst the leader team got their own tents pitched and the gas etc connected. For tea we were having sausage rolls and burgers. Each patrol was given their list of duties for the week and the days that they had rest days, duties involved cooking, washing up, water & waste. every patrol was going to do every job. We were all settled at about 11pm ready for our 1st day. Each patrol was also given a leader to help them, supervise them and mentor them

Day 2 We had planned to do a 5 mile hike but as it was so hot, still over 30 degrees we decided that this would not be a wise plan and so decided to let the scouts go and explore in the morning as we had rifle shooting in the afternoon everyone had a go and there were some really sharp shooters, Jason, Ken and a few scouts built our camp gate, and what a great job they did.

Day 3 We visited Shuttleworth where there was a vintage airplane display and loads to do we took a packed lunch visited the museum and enjoyed watching the flying, late home but we had dinner in hand so it was fine

Day 4 Today we had pioneering and had planned A frame racing this is great for the scouts as they learn loads of knots and lashings but with the temperature so hot the scouts were quite happy to go and do their own thing, however Brandon and a few of the scouts decided to make a swing......WOW what they made was fab and everyone wanted to have a go, later in the afternoon we had a water fight and got the water slide out.

Day 5 Up early for a day of activities, crate stacking and caving, the first group went off caving and the another went to the woods to go crate stacking, the site record was 14 set by Sausage and one of his fellow wardens but this was smashed by Harvey & Dominic getting 15...well all change and the last group came in for the crate stacking it was looking great Katiey and Lily were looking strong contenders and wow they only went and broke the newly set record of 15 with 16! Yay go girls!!

Day 6 Mini Olympics

It all started with a Tin can alley (well nerf guns and baked bean tins) each scout got 1 bullet to get as many down as possible then it was a dash to the hurdles with a bean bag on your head it was over the hurdles then throw your bean bag back for the next person, once the hurdles were completed it was a race on the space hoppers each member had to go to each end and back then run back to give their team the hopper to do the same the next challenge was to blow a balloon up tie it off then waddle to the next challenge....it was like the march of the penguins once they had reached the other end they had to pop their balloon and wait for their team then down to the egg and spoon race with bean bag on their heads they had to be careful not to drop the egg, if they did it was back to the start. Once they had all complete that they had to form a line and and all pass through a hula hoop. then on to the hook a duck, but with a twist they had to take 2 playing cards and find the corresponding amount with ducks (they had numbers on the underneath) From that it was to save the water each patrol had a bucket of water and cups the first person had to fill their cup and pass it backwards over their head to the person behind who in turn did the same to the person behind them until it got to the last person that had to fill another vessel, once filled they were onto the patrol sack race the bags kindly donated by Jewsons were huge and big enough to fit the whole patrol in this was a real show to how well they worked as a team as they all had to jump together or they all fell over. The winning patrol was Stags, Josiah lead his team well (with a bit of help from his leader Brandon)

Day 7 After a wet night we had to pack up ready for our journey home. with exhausted scouts and wet canvas we arrived back at the scout hq at about 2pm and once all the tents were re pitched and all the kit was away we went home for a well deserved shower and sleep, but with happy memories of the week that we had spent together
