This evening we set off early as our trip to the observatory was about 30 miles away from the Scout HQ, everyone was on time and we headed off. the journey down was OK and we arrived at Bayfordbury at 7.15pm where we were met by one of the astronomers. We took a seat and the presentation began, she was speaking about the earth and the types of telescopes that they used and the different types that there were, the scouts interacted answering the questions that they were asked, then we broke off into 2 groups, one went to the planetarium where we all sat down and the astronomer explained about where it all began, we were asked to spot different constellations and then name them and and told that there were certain constellations that as we were in the the northern hemisphere were always detectable and others that we only see at certain times of the year.
We went on to see a couple of the different telescope but unfortunately it was too cloudy to see through the telescopes and was wet too so they could not open the the observatories roof either.
We all had a fab time and hopefully learnt loads to bring with them next week where we have a presentation by John who is a amateur astronomer
